Howard Hunt was a Dallas based oil billionaire and Dallas Democrat.

Hunt lost "a large sum of money" on the Cotton Bowl and Rose Bowl football games. This was actually a bet and run swindle run by Harry Hall using the name Harry Sinclair Jr. They had been introduced to each other by Jack Ruby who was providing Hall with the cash to operate the swindle.

On Thursday November 21st, Jack Ruby drove Connie Trammel, who was "job hunting in Dallas" to the office of Hunt's son, Lamar Hunt.

On the morning of November 22nd, a full-page black bordered advertisement, like a mourning announcement, appeared in The Dallas Morning News. A prominent member of the American Fact-Finding Committee that placed the advertisement was Hunt's other son, Nelson Bunker Hunt.

At 12:22 Hunt watched the motorcade go past from his headquarters on the seventh floor of the Mercantile Building at Main and Ervay.
